Women's Health
Treatment
When treating woman it is important to note several differences from men.
- One important consideration is that stress affects men and woman differently (Verma, et. al. 2011).
- Depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders are most common in females.
- The age of onset of mental illness can vary from men depending on the illness.
- Sex hormones that arise from the X and the Y chromosomes have a profound influence on brain functioning and mental illness (Holden, 2005).
- There are also societal stressors such as discrimination and inequality related to gender that can affect women's health (Otten, et. al. 2021).
